LG took a different approach with the Velvet, giving this 5G handset a slimmer, more style-driven profile than many phones in its class. Its 6.8-inch P-OLED display uses a tall 20.5:9 format and Full HD+ resolution, which gives streaming, reading and everyday apps a spacious look without making the phone overly heavy at 180 g. The design is especially distinctive around the back cameras, which are arranged in a clean droplet-style layout rather than a large square bump. Inside, the Snapdragon 765G platform pairs with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, with microSD expansion available for much larger media libraries. The rear camera system combines a 48 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultra wide and a 5 MP depth sensor, while the 16 MP front camera handles selfies and video calls. A 4,300 mAh battery, fast wired charging and wireless charging round out the daily essentials, and the phone also includes practical extras such as an in-screen fingerprint sensor, NFC, Bluetooth 5.1, IP68 water and dust resistance, and MIL-STD-810G durability. An optional LG Dual Screen accessory also sets it apart from more conventional designs.

Cons

  • With a 60 Hz screen, it’s not the best phone to play games. We recommend getting a device with a 90 Hz or 120 Hz screen if you’re a gamer.
  • Although there’s a 1/8 headphones jack, the Velvet doesn’t have an analog-to-digital convert (ADC). It’s therefore not the best device for audiophiles.
