Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra 5g is the largest and most feature-rich model in the S21 family, built around a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a sharp 3200 x 1440 resolution, HDR10+ support and an adaptive refresh rate that can scale from 10 to 120 Hz. Its curved-edge format gives it a distinctly premium look, though this is also a substantial phone at 165.1 x 75.6 x 8.9 mm and about 227 g. Performance is anchored by a 5 nm octa-core platform, with 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM and storage options from 128 GB to 512 GB, making it well suited to demanding multitasking, high-resolution media capture and long sessions away from a charger. The camera system remains one of its standout elements, pairing a 108 MP main camera with a 12 MP ultra-wide, dual 10 MP telephoto cameras for 3x and 10x optical zoom, laser autofocus and 8K video recording, while the 40 MP front camera handles selfies and video calls at a similarly high level. A 5000 mAh battery, 25 W wired charging, 15 W wireless charging, Wireless PowerShare, 5G, Wi‑Fi 6E, UWB, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, IP68 protection and S Pen support round out a phone that clearly aimed for the top tier.

Pros

  • Improved camera system: The S21 Ultra has an incredible camera system with a 108 MP wide angle camera, a 12 MP ultrawide angle camera, two 10 MP telephoto cameras with 100x Space Zoom and a 40 MP selfie camera. If this wasn't enough, all these cameras can also record videos in 4K at 60 fps.
  • Brighter, larger screen: The S21 Ultra has a curved QHD+ screen with an higher resolution compared to the FHD+ screen of the S21 and S21+. The S21 Ultra screen is also brighter (1500 nits compared to 1300 nits) and is Samsung's first QHD+ screen to feature a refresh rate of 10 to 120 Hz.
  • More storage and RAM: The S21 Ultra is the only phone of the S21 series to be available with up to 512GB of storage and 12GB or 16GB of RAM.
  • Better WiFi: The S21 Ultra is Samsung's first 6E WiFi phone, meaning it can extend into the 6 GHz band (a new faster type of WiFi that could be approved over the next year in Canada).
  • Support for the S-Pen: For the first time on a Galaxy S device, you users will be able to use their S-Pen. The S-Pen is not included with the S21 Ultra and has to be purchased separately.
  • 5000 mAh battery: The S21 Ultra features a larger 5000mAh battery. Combined with the efficient refresh rate (10-120Hz) of the screen, you won't need to carry a charger with you.

Cons

  • Large and heavy: The S21 Ultra is packed with features, but it's also large and heavy (228g). This makes it harder to carry and use with one hand.
  • Only available in dull colors: Samsung's flagship phone is only available in 2 colors (Phantom Black and Phantom Silver). That said, if you buy it directly from Samsung's website, you have access to 3 more colors (Phantom Titanium, Phantom Navy and Phantom Brown). We wish Samsung had included more exciting colors like it did on the S21 and S21+.
  • Expensive: The S21 Ultra is packed with features but it comes with a steep price tag.
  • No micro SD card slot: The premium Samsung flagship doesn't include a micro SD card slot. This is a letdown onsidering that all the models of last year's S20 series included a micro SD card slot.
