BlackBerry designed the Leap as an affordable full touchscreen model for people who wanted the brand’s communication focused approach without a physical keyboard. Its 5 inch LCD display uses a 1280 x 720 resolution, giving it a straightforward size for email, messaging and everyday apps, while the all black body keeps a restrained professional look. Inside, it runs on a dual core Snapdragon S4 Plus processor with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, plus microSD expansion up to 128 GB for extra files and media. The rear 8 MP camera includes autofocus, LED flash and 1080p video capture, and the front 2 MP camera supports video calls and 720p recording. A 2800 mAh battery was one of its stronger practical points, and the phone also includes 4G LTE, Wi Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and microUSB 2.0. At about 170 g and roughly 144 x 72.9 x 9.4 mm, the Leap is substantial without being oversized. Its legacy BlackBerry 10 software makes it a more niche choice today, but the hardware remains a clear example of BlackBerry’s late all touch design direction.
